The first time I submitted my work to a publisher, it was picked up immediately. That turned out to be a blessing and a curse. Well, it was much more of a curse, really. Actually, it was just a plain old curse. After several years of working with the publisher, I signed off on a proof, and the next step was to roll the novels off the line! Unfortunately, just before that happened, the publisher decided to stop publishing novels in order to focus exclusively on rolling out documentaries. Young, heartbroken me did not give up writing, but I was in no hurry to revisit the land-o-publishers.
When I finished Bringing Them Back, I received lots of positivity and encouragement from readers in my circle, but it sounded like more fun to continue writing what I envisioned instead of writing a novel-series-worth of letters to publishers, e‑mails to editors, and spreadsheets of social media advertising engagement tracking. I swear that last one is a real thing. What did sound fun to me was seeing the words on the page transformed into audiobook art, so I enlisted the help of a talented producer to make that happen. And Mel Turi did make it happen!
